If you or someone in your household has a disability, we can help. You can request reasonable adjustments, changes that remove barriers and make it easier for you to access our services.
There’s no fixed list of adjustments, as we consider each request individually. Some examples include:
- Changing door handles or taps for easier use
- Installing grab rails (inside and outside)
- Minor paving or pathway adjustments
- Small adaptation works to your home
- Adjusting how we communicate with you
- Updating or replacing signs in and around your building
- Giving you more time to complete something (if legally possible)
- Speaking with a family member or friend on your behalf (with your permission)
How We Consider Requests
When you ask for an adjustment, we’ll look at:
- How practical and easy it is to make the change
- Whether it would significantly affect others or our services
- The impact the adjustment would have for you
- The availability and cost of any aids or adaptations
Sometimes, we may ask for medical evidence to help us assess your request.
Larger Adaptations
If you need bigger changes, like a wet room, an Occupational Health referral would be required. One of our surveyors will visit to assess your needs, and we’ll then pass the referral to Birmingham City Council for funding approval.
