Residents are invited to the latest Community Chat event where they will have a chance to feedback on plans for Castle Vale, participate in workshops, hear from our local police, MP and councillor and learn more about job opportunities with JLR.
The Community Chat will take place on 7th November from 5 – 7 pm at The Sanctuary.
Ifor Jones, Head of Communities at The Pioneer Group, will introduce the new Corporate Plan, which outlines proposals to improve Castle Vale over for the next five years. During this session residents both young and old are invited to learn about initiatives planned for the community and give feedback. The team is especially keen on hearing younger people’s opinions to provide information for a youth version of the plan.
Ifor will also give information on the new Steps to Work initiative with JLR, which is due to officially launch in November 2019 to help more locals to be job-ready in 2020.
The evening includes a mental health workshop for parents and children from eight years old.
Local MP Jack Dromey will be present to provide an update on community safety, while councillor Suzanne Webb wants to hear of any issues around the estate.
As part of the evening, there is a West Midlands Police presence, where residents can get to know their community officers – PC Harris and Sergeant Edkins – and find out more about safety and security initiatives.
Castle Vale Scouts will provide a campfire and an opportunity to toast marshmallows. They will also highlight the exciting programme of events they run for children aged from six upwards.
As part of the Christmas Hamper project run by the Youth Team at Compass Support, the charitable subsidiary of The Pioneer Group, a donation station will be collecting non-perishable food and toiletries for vulnerable members of our community who may be alone this festive period, so please bring something along.
The first Community Chat was held at Greenwood Academy giving residents an opportunity to look around the new school. This event will be an opportunity to check out The Sanctuary, which is where the Compass Support team is based and is used for clubs, groups, work events and also private hire.
Becki Winkless, Inclusion and Insight Officer at event organisers Castle Vale Community Housing, commented:
