We believe everyone deserves to live without fear of hate or discrimination.

We don’t tolerate hate crime or hate incidents directed at our customers, their visitors, our staff, contractors, or anyone lawfully present in our communities.

We take all reports seriously and act quickly, always putting the needs of the victim first.

What is a Hate Crime?

A hate crime is any criminal offence motivated by hostility or prejudice based on someone’s:

  • Race, ethnicity, or nationality
  • Gender or gender identity
  • Disability
  • Religion, faith, or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
  • Marital or civil partnership status
  • Pregnancy or maternity
  • Appearance or lifestyle

Examples include:

  • Verbal abuse or threats
  • Harassment or bullying
  • Physical assault
  • Damage to property
  • Offensive graffiti or social media posts
  • Malicious phone calls or messages
  • Distributing hateful materials

What is a Hate Incident?

A hate incident is behaviour that causes distress and is motivated by prejudice, but may not be a crime. These incidents can still be deeply harmful and may escalate into criminal behaviour.

How is Hate Different from Other Issues?

Hate is often motivated by prejudice and targets people from marginalised or protected groups.

It is often intentional and premeditated, unlike general neighbour disputes or nuisance behaviour.

Our Commitment

We will:

  • Protect our customers, staff, and partners from hate crime and hate incidents.
  • Record and monitor all reports accurately.
  • Work with the police and other agencies to prevent and respond to hate.
  • Take a community-wide approach to tackling hate and promoting inclusion.
