Estates Services Estates Services

We want Castle Vale to be a place you’re proud to call home.

Through our Pledge Fund, we put money back into looking after the shared spaces around your home. It supports our Estates Team, who work across the estate every day to keep things clean and safe.

This page explains what we do, what we’re responsible for, and when you might need to contact someone else.

Checking buildings and keeping people safe

Looking after an estate isn’t just about how it looks. It’s also about safety.

Our Estates Team carries out regular building checks, focusing on fire safety, health and safety, and general standards.

How often do we check

Larger or more complex buildings (including Topcliffe, Chivenor House, Phoenix, Whittle Croft and our HMOs, plus any building with a fire alarm panel): checked every week

All other buildings: checked every month

In total, 15 blocks are checked weekly.

What we look for

Government guidance recommends quarterly checks. We go further by checking at least monthly and weekly where needed.

Working with our partners

Some issues need a joint approach. We work closely with Birmingham City Council, especially around fly‑tipping.

Our estate vans can make up to two tip visits a day (up to 10 a week) so we can deal with dumped rubbish on our land as quickly as possible.

Who looks after what?

Different parts of the estate are managed by different organisations. Here’s a quick guide.

  • Communal areas in flats, like stairways, corridors and shared gardens
  • Car parks and footpaths linked to our homes
  • Garage sites and gated alleyways
  • Roads and pavements
  • Grass verges
  • Parks and leisure spaces
  • Land around shops
  • Retail parks
  • The health centre

What we do for you

Our Estates Services Team and contractors help keep the estate tidy and safe. This includes:

  • Litter picking and graffiti removal
  • Bulk rubbish collections for our customers
  • Cleaning entrances, stairways and corridors
  • Landscaping around flats
  • Gardening services for older residents (service charge applies)
  • Regular inspections so problems can be picked up early

Keeping shared spaces clean

Our cleaning team follows a weekly rota to make sure entrances and communal areas are looked after.

Monday: Reception area

Tuesday: Landings

Wednesday: Reception area

Thursday: Bin rooms and stairs

Friday: Reception area
