In April this year, BBC One’s popular property programme, Homes Under the Hammer visited Castle Vale!
They were returning for a second time to film a feature on the former police station on the High Street, which has now been converted into nine new apartments.
The Pioneer Group bought the old police station at auction so that we could use the space to provide more affordable homes on the estate.
Local police have been working alongside our Estates Services Team ever since they moved out of the old station, as they’re now based at the Greenhouse, one of The Pioneer Group’s offices, keeping the estate safe and secure for the Castle Vale community.
Homes Under the Hammer visited to film the property before work was carried out on site and returned this time to see how it looked once the flats were finished. During their visit they took some time to speak to our Chief Executive, Simon Wilson, about the project.
Simon said: “We are really pleased with the outcome of this project and to have been able to support the neighbourhood police team to maintain a presence on the estate.
“We hope that this move will help residents to feel safer and happier as well as providing access to new, much needed affordable housing.”
The new homes were completed earlier this year, and first tenants got their keys on 1st May 2024.
Tenant Scrutiny Panel member, Sue Spicer, was invited for a tour to view the newly made homes, having lived in Castle Vale all her life and witnessing the estate’s regeneration since the beginning.
Sue said: “After seeing the police station from the original build, it was good to see it converted into new flats for people.
“The building has a nice shape and the layout was thought out very well.
“I hope future tenants will enjoy living in them.”
Homes Under The Hammer will be broadcasting the programme within the next few months, so please remember to tune in to see our wonderful estate on the TV!
